Our Rodrigues tours are rated Moderate, which means comfortable walking for 2–3 hours on flat terrain, with rest stops built in. You should be able to walk a mile without needing to stop, and be able to step onto and off a small boat with assistance. The terrain on Rodrigues is genuinely flat. If you have specific concerns, contact us with your situation and we'll give you an honest answer about whether a specific tour is right for you.

Walking sticks are completely compatible with all our tours. Rollators are manageable for most activities on Rodrigues — the terrain is flat — but the Île aux Cocos boat trip requires stepping off a pier which may be challenging. We assess each situation individually. Contact us with your specific requirements and we'll tell you exactly what is and isn't possible rather than making a general statement.

Rodrigues has local medical facilities adequate for most situations. Mauritius has strong hospital infrastructure. Réunion has full French NHS-equivalent standards. For serious emergencies, air evacuation is available. This is why comprehensive travel insurance with a minimum $500,000 medical limit and evacuation coverage is a condition of participation — not a recommendation.

On the Rodrigues Solo tour specifically: no single supplement. The tour is designed for single travellers and the pricing reflects that. On other tours, we match solo travellers with compatible fellow solo guests. If matching isn't possible, we waive the supplement. Very normal. It's also how almost everyone on a solo tour feels before they arrive. The consistent feedback we get from solo travellers is that the nervousness disappears quickly — usually within the first day — because the group is small (maximum 8) and everyone is in the same situation. By day three on Rodrigues, most groups are making their own dinner plans independently of the guide.

Standard Medicare (Parts A and B) does not provide coverage outside the United States. Some Medigap plans provide limited foreign travel emergency benefits but with a $50,000 lifetime cap — which can be insufficient for a single serious emergency evacuation from a remote destination. Comprehensive travel insurance covering at minimum $500,000 in medical expenses and emergency evacuation is required for all ElderRoam tours.

We're not doctors and can't answer that question ourselves — your cardiologist can. What we can tell you: Rodrigues is a warm, flat island with low physical demands on our tours. The main factors to assess with your doctor are the heat (tropical, humid — typically 26–31°C), the flight (Mauritius to Rodrigues is 90 minutes), and your insurance situation (check that your specific condition is covered without exclusions you haven't read).

May to October. This is the dry season — lower humidity, temperatures around 22–26°C, lower cyclone risk. July and August are peak season and busiest. June and September offer the best combination of good weather, manageable crowds and value. January–March is cyclone season — we don't recommend tours during this period and our operator partners don't schedule them.

Yes, and many of our travellers do. The guided tour takes care of the logistically complex part of the trip. Extending independently — a few days in Mauritius before flying home, or a few days in Rodrigues at your own pace after the tour — is something we can advise on.
